How is Creativity Measured

 

Creativity is very important in teamwork and everyday life.  When an individual or team is coming up with a solution, creativity must come into play. When it comes to how creativity is measured, there are many ways this can be done. According to English psychologist Graham Wallas, creativity is measured in four stages. These stages are preparation, incubation, illumination, and verification.  

The first stage of the creativity is measured by preparation. Preparation will consist of gathering as much information as possible for the project and thinking of different ways a solution can be improved. The second stage of measuring creativity is incubation. Incubation includes working the problem through and opening your mind to different ideas. In lamer terms, you will keep your ideas under the scope until it is ready to be put into action, while this is happening, you will also welcome new ideas that may contribute to the success of the solution being built.

The third stage of measuring creativity is illumination. This is the stage when both stages one and two will become cohesive. This is the stage where you are able to begin to put all information that was gathered and new ideas into finalizing the solution. The last and final stage of measuring creativity is verification. The verification stage is when you finalize everything, make any necessary changes, and polish it all up. In this stage you will also put the solution to test to ensure it will meet the needs of the user. 

 

Threats to Team Creativity

 “you cannot produce innovative and appreciated ideas or inventions, the effective executions of any new ideas without them withering and dying. Most creativity comes into play when you are working with the right people or working in the right setting.” (Amabile, 2010)

Creativity happens when an organization contributes to the competitiveness and sustainability within the growing market. most Businesses tend to fail when they cannot revolutionize, which causes the business to fall behind the quickly increasing market.

 

 

Recommend ways teams can enhance creativity.

 

There are recommended ways for a team to enhance their creativity through collaboration and interaction. Creativity encourages a team to produce efficient ideas to improve processes and provides solutions. Brainstorming is a recommended way to enhance creativity because team members can give their thoughts, innovative comments, and opinions. John Hall's article called “The 6 Best Ways To Inspire Creativity Within Your Team, explained another way “creating a stimulating work environment that sparks creativity while encouraging individuality and a collaborative spirit” (Hall, 2019). A stimulating environment will foster an atmosphere for the team to strive when the members are diversified. The final recommendation is to have a diverse team with different backgrounds, skills, and strengths that will bring a difference of opinions and perspectives plus resolving any failures.

 

 

Creative Realism

 

Realism refers to reacting in the moment and quickly making decisions based on the present situation. Creative realism is a strategic process utilized by teams to help navigate through difficult situations. Project managers also use creative realism to help foster the decision-making process in a project. When implementing this strategy, the project manager and team can discuss and debate solutions to any conflict. In general, creative realism allows the team to work through complicated decisions and quickly move toward the desired outcome. It permits teams to communicate and share their opinions in a supportive environment. Creative realism allows the project team to work together and make decisions to increase the success of the project.

 

Conservative Idealism

         Conservative Idealism is one of the four general conceptual domains into which new ideas can be classified. The conservative aspect of the concept refers to a common idea or something that is already in practice. The idealism aspect of this concept makes this idea unrealistic. According to Thompson, L (2003), “. Conservative idealism is an extension of a common idea that is unrealistic to begin with. These ideas exhibit little or no imagination and are not connected to existing knowledge”. 

 

Creative Idealism

         Creative idealism is the manner in which an individual has high creativity, but the creativity is low for reality. In this type of creativity, it is a high fantasy type of idealism and usually will not be of tangibility. 

 

         Conservative Realism

         According to Thompson and Brajkovich, 2003, conservative realism includes ideas that are realistic but not conventional. This means that these types of ideas are creative but are not original. These ideas branch off of pre-existing concepts but view them in a new or different way.
